MIDLAND, TX (January 11, 2025) – A 57-year-old Odessa man lost his life in a three-vehicle collision on the icy overpass of State Highway 349 and State Highway 158 on Thursday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:35 a.m. on January 9. DPS reported that a 2020 Kenworth towing a trailer was traveling westbound on SH 349 at an unsafe speed for the icy conditions. The truck veered into the eastbound lane and collided with two vehicles, a 2022 Ram 1500 and a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, at the overpass bridge.
The driver of the Silverado, identified as Richard Allen Howell, 57, of Odessa, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Ram, Adrian Mathew Armendariz, 32, of Odessa, and the Kenworth driver, Sheniel Nicholas Samuels, 27, of Columbus, Ohio, were not reported to have sustained serious injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by DPS.
