Morganton, NC (December 9, 2024) – A collision involving a dump truck and a passenger vehicle claimed the life of a man and left his wife seriously injured Sunday evening.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred around 6 p.m. on US 64 at Fisher Davis Road. Investigators say a 2005 Chrysler 300, driven by 64-year-old Danny Lee Scott, was traveling south on Fisher Davis Road and turned left onto US 64 from a stop sign. The Chrysler collided with a westbound 1975 Ford dump truck.

Danny Lee Scott was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, who was a passenger, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The dump truck driver suffered minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital.

Authorities stated that neither speed nor impairment were factors in the crash, and no charges are expected. The roadway was closed for two hours during the investigation.
