Hemet, CA (August 14, 2025) – A head-on crash Tuesday evening in Hemet claimed the life of 49-year-old Ambrocio Cota, according to authorities.
According to reports, the fatal collision occurred just before 7:00 p.m. on August 13 along State Route 74 near Joppe Avenue. The California Highway Patrol stated that Cota was driving a 2010 Lexus IS250 eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle crossed over the raised center divider into oncoming traffic.
The Lexus collided head-on with a westbound 2024 Chevrolet Express van before veering off the roadway and crashing into a chain-link fence. The impact left both vehicles with significant front-end damage.
Emergency personnel from the Riverside County Fire Department responded and pronounced Cota dead at the scene. The driver of the van sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.
CHP investigators are working to determine what caused the vehicle to cross into opposing lanes.
