Brighton, NY (September 10, 2025) – A 67-year-old man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a fiery collision involving a classic Chevrolet Corvette and a garbage truck on Interstate 590 southbound in Monroe County.

According to the New York State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 2:52 p.m. on September 9. Troopers from SP Rochester and members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene in the town of Brighton.

Authorities report that the driver of a 1973 Chevrolet Corvette attempted to pass a 2016 International Harvester garbage truck when his vehicle struck it. The impact forced the Corvette to the right, where it became entangled with the front of the garbage truck and subsequently caught fire.

The Corvette’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending family notification.

The garbage truck driver, Jennifer A. Somora, 43, of Spencerport, and her passenger, Cristian Prosper Ruiz, 22, of Rochester, were uninjured. Investigators noted no signs of impairment on the part of the garbage truck operator.

The crash remains under investigation by law enforcement.
