Temple, TX (October 8, 2025) – A man has been arrested in connection with a deadly hit-and-run that took the life of a pedestrian on Interstate 35 in Temple earlier this week.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal crash occurred around 3:38 p.m. on October 6 in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 near exit 298. Police say a pedestrian was attempting to cross the highway when they were struck by an 18-wheeler.
The driver of the semi-truck, later identified as 32-year-old Jesus Ivan Garcia of Laredo, reportedly fled the scene. He was located a short time later near Salado, where he complied with law enforcement and was taken into custody.
Garcia was arrested on charges of Failure to Stop and Render Aid Involving Personal Injury or Death. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not been made public.
An investigation by the Temple Police Department Traffic Reconstruction Unit is ongoing.
