Moss Hill, TX (September 10, 2025) – A 21-year-old man from Lufkin tragically lost his life Tuesday afternoon in a collision involving a tractor-trailer just south of the Snake River Subdivision on State Highway 146.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the deadly crash happened around noon on September 9. A 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by 25-year-old Mateyah Janea Powell of Beaumont, was heading northbound on SH 146 and attempting to turn into a gravel pit driveway.
Authorities say the truck entered the path of a southbound 2018 Ford Fusion driven by the Lufkin man. The Ford struck the side of the trailer in a violent collision. The young driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released as next of kin are being notified.
State Highway 146 was shut down for several hours while investigators worked the scene.
