Angelina County, TX (November 21, 2025) – A tragic crash near Lufkin on Tuesday morning claimed the life of an elderly Zavalla woman, according to local authorities.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on November 18 along U.S. Highway 69. Officials said a 2024 Kia Sportage was pulling out of a private driveway and attempting to head south on the highway when it entered the path of an oncoming 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe.

Helen Daniel, 83, a passenger in the Kia, was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died while undergoing treatment. The driver of the Kia, 55-year-old Donna Price of Zavalla, suffered life-threatening injuries and was also hospitalized.

The driver of the Tahoe, Christina Mikeska, 42, of Lufkin, sustained serious injuries and was transported for emergency care. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
