Thomaston, GA (January 10, 2026) – A driver was hospitalized Tuesday morning, January 6, after his pickup truck collided with a semi-trailer that was backing into traffic on the wrong side of the road in Upson County.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash occurred around 6:20 a.m. on State Route 36 near Willis Road. A tractor-trailer, attempting to make a delivery, was improperly positioned facing west in the eastbound lane while trying to back onto the roadway. As a Ford F-150 approached the hilltop in the eastbound direction, the driver moved into the right turn lane in an attempt to avoid the semi.
Despite the maneuver, the pickup struck the trailer with its front left side. The male pickup driver became trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency crews. He was transported to Atrium Navicent Medical Center in Macon for treatment.
The 32-year-old semi driver from Monroe has been cited for driving on the wrong side of the road and improper backing.
