Yucca Valley, CA (August 17, 2025) – A tragic collision on Old Woman Springs Road claimed one life and left another person critically injured Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, the crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. on August 12 along Highway 247, just south of La Brisa Drive. The California Highway Patrol said 41-year-old Lucy Barajas of Yucca Valley was driving a Toyota southbound when she veered onto the shoulder where two trucks — a flatbed and a Chevrolet pickup with a trailer — were parked. Both drivers were outside their vehicles at the time.
Barajas struck the men and the trucks. One victim, identified as 41-year-old Detrick Kelley of Yucca Valley, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, 26-year-old William Adams, sustained major injuries. He was first taken to Hi Desert Medical Center and later airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
Authorities confirmed Barajas was intoxicated and arrested on suspicion of DUI causing bodily injury and vehicular manslaughter. She is being held on $250,000 bail.
