According to reports, the crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. on August 12 along Highway 247, just south of La Brisa Drive. The California Highway Patrol said 41-year-old Lucy Barajas of Yucca Valley was driving a Toyota southbound when she veered onto the shoulder where two trucks — a flatbed and a Chevrolet pickup with a trailer — were parked. Authorities confirmed Barajas was intoxicated and arrested on suspicion of DUI causing bodily injury and vehicular manslaughter. She is being held on $250,000 bail.
