Santa Barbara, CA (October 29, 2025) – Two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon following a fiery head-on crash involving two vehicles on Highway 154 near Painted Cave Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on October 28 in the eastbound lanes of the highway. The crash involved a Subaru and a Tesla, with one of the vehicles briefly catching fire after impact.
Emergency responders confirmed that the Subaru driver suffered major injuries, while the Tesla driver sustained moderate injuries. Both individuals were transported by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for further treatment.
Two dogs traveling in the Tesla were unharmed and were safely transferred to the Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter in Goleta.
Traffic on Highway 154 was impacted as both directions were initially closed. One lane was later reopened to allow alternating traffic flow. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
