Lompoc, CA (October 14, 2025) – A man suffered critical injuries Saturday afternoon after his vehicle veered off Jalama Road near Lompoc and plunged over a steep embankment, according to emergency crews.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 1:41 p.m. on October 12, about half a mile south of Jalama Road. The vehicle ended up nearly 40 feet off the roadway, tangled in trees and dense brush on a steep hillside.
Firefighters from Santa Barbara County and Lompoc Fire Department used hydraulic rescue tools to free the trapped man from the wreckage. Once extricated, he was airlifted by Calstar medical helicopter to Marian Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash. Jalama Road was closed temporarily to allow emergency personnel to access the scene and clear debris.
