According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident took place around 7:00 p.m. on October 14 on Gas Line Road, just west of Summit Road. Authorities say a Polaris RZR was heading westbound when, for reasons still unknown, the off-road vehicle collided with a chain link fence.
The 45-year-old passenger, a resident of Thermal, died at the scene from their injuries. The driver of the vehicle reportedly fled on foot and has not been located. Their identity has not been released.
