Wayland Township, MI (August 28, 2025) – A fatal two-car collision shut down a portion of US-131 early Wednesday morning, leaving one person dead and five others hospitalized.
According to the Michigan State Police , the crash occurred around 5:26 a.m. near the 59-mile marker by 124th Avenue. Deputies with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office reported that two vehicles collided, forcing closures of US-131 up to mile marker 61, just north of 128th Avenue.
Emergency responders confirmed that one victim was unresponsive at the scene. Although medics briefly restored a pulse through life-saving measures, the individual was later pronounced deceased while en route to the hospital. Five others were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities said speed is believed to have been a factor.
Southbound US-131 was reopened later in the morning. The names of those involved have not yet been released.
