Sandy Spring, WA (October 4, 2024) – A tragic accident on Wednesday morning claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl and left two other teens in critical condition after their car crashed into a pole in Montgomery County, Maryland.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Norwood Road in Sandy Spring, when the vehicle lost control while navigating a curve and struck a wooden light pole, according to Montgomery County police.
Sanaa Vil, a 17-year-old high school senior, was killed in the crash. Two other passengers, a 17-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, both students from Sherwood High School, were critically injured and are receiving medical care.
Vil was an active member of the Black Student Union and played on the Varsity Girls Basketball Team at Sherwood High School, Principal Timothy Britton shared in a letter to the community. The school and community are mourning the loss of a bright young student.
