Bessemer, AL (October 9, 2024) – A 70-year-old woman lost her life following a head-on collision on Interstate 59/20 in Bessemer on Monday afternoon. According to the Jefferson County Coroner, Angela Strickland Lockhart was driving when her vehicle was struck head-on by another car fleeing from the Bessemer Police Department. Lockhart was transported to UAB Hospital, where she passed away shortly after 5 p.m.
The crash occurred just after 1 p.m. near Exit 108 on October 7, 2024. Officers from the Bessemer Police Department were seen surrounding two heavily damaged sedans at the scene. Northbound lanes of I-59/20 were closed for several hours as authorities investigated the crash.
