Broward, FL (October 21, 2024) — The nine victims involved in a tragic crash on Florida’s Turnpike, which claimed the life of a grandmother on her 94th birthday and sent three children to the hospital, were all from Louisiana, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the southbound lanes near Griffin Road. A van carrying the nine individuals rear-ended a fuel tanker truck “for reasons yet to be determined,” according to the FHP report released Wednesday.
The impact caused the van to skid to a stop, and some passengers were ejected from the vehicle. Plantation Fire officials confirmed that no one in the van was wearing a seatbelt. FHP investigators stated that impairment was not a factor in the crash.
