Dale County, AL (August 18, 2025) – An elderly Troy man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning in Dale County, according to officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
According to reports, the accident happened around 7:35 a.m. on August 16 along U.S. 231 near the 54-mile marker, approximately five miles south of Ariton. Troopers said 81-year-old Carroll Grant Hughes was driving a 2019 Ford F-250 when the truck collided with a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer operated by 24-year-old Jaden Christopher Dunwoody of Dothan.
Hughes, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Dunwoody suffered injuries and was transported to Dale Medical Center in Ozark for treatment. Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
