Authorities said the crash occurred just after 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Illinois Route 18 and County Highway 1150 East in Magnolia Township.
According to reports, investigators determined that 27-year-old Anthony A. Herrera of Cresthill was driving east on Route 18 when he attempted to pass several vehicles. His vehicle struck a westbound car driven by 67-year-old Mary T. Fitzmaurice of Downers Grove. Both Herrera and Fitzmaurice were flown to OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria for treatment.
