Madera County, CA (August 21, 2025) – A woman was killed and two drivers injured in a collision Monday morning in Madera County after a pickup driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. on August 18 along Highway 233, also known as Robertson Boulevard, near Avenue 22.
The California Highway Patrol said a 19-year-old Madera man was driving a white 2012 Chevrolet Silverado southbound when he allegedly fell asleep and drifted into the northbound lane. At the same time, a 46-year-old woman from Merced was traveling north in a black 2015 BMW 320i, accompanied by a 53-year-old female passenger.
Both drivers attempted evasive maneuvers and swerved into the southbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision. The Silverado overturned onto its left side, while the BMW came to a stop on the dirt shoulder.
The 53-year-old woman in the BMW died at the scene. Both drivers sustained minor injuries, though only the BMW driver was transported for treatment.
