Jackson County, MO (August 23, 2025) — A serious rear-end collision involving two Chevrolet vehicles occurred late Friday afternoon on westbound Interstate 70 in Jackson County.
According to reports, the crash happened around 4:25 p.m. on August 22 near the 21.0 mile marker of I-70. A 2019 Chevrolet Blazer was stopped in congested westbound traffic when it was struck from behind by a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado. Authorities say the driver of the Silverado was distracted and failed to stop in time to avoid the collision.
Both vehicles were totaled and had to be towed from the scene. The driver of the Blazer, a 61-year-old man from Bates City, Missouri, sustained minor injuries and was transported by Central Jackson County Fire Protection to North Kansas City Hospital. The 36-year-old driver of the Silverado, from Oak Grove, Missouri, was not reported to be injured.
Emergency crews and troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted at the scene.
