Oakland, CA (August 24, 2025) – One person was killed early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle collision that shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 880 near Hegenberger Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to reports, the crash occurred at approximately 3:48 a.m. on August 23. A semi-truck was reportedly rear-ended by another vehicle, resulting in a severe impact. Emergency responders, including Oakland Fire and medical personnel, arrived on the scene shortly after the crash. At least one person was found unresponsive.
All lanes of southbound I-880 were blocked for several hours due to the extent of the crash and emergency operations. A third parked vehicle may have also been involved. The Alameda County Coroner was called to the scene, and two vehicles were towed as part of the investigation.
