Salinas, CA (August 24, 2025) – A chaotic series of events Thursday night involving gunfire and two separate hit-and-run crashes left one person injured and a suspect in custody, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to reports, the Monterey Communications Center received ShotSpotter activations at approximately 7:18 p.m. on August 21, confirming gunfire along southbound Highway 101 between Laurel Drive and John Street. Minutes later, CHP received reports of two crashes in the same vicinity—a non-injury hit-and-run at the southbound off-ramp to John Street and another hit-and-run on John Street that resulted in injuries.
Officers soon located an abandoned vehicle believed to be connected to the suspect. The man was later found at a nearby apartment complex in Salinas and taken into custody without incident. Two firearms were recovered at the scene.
The suspect is facing multiple charges, including felony DUI, hit-and-run, and several firearm-related offenses.
