Long Beach, CA (August 24, 2025) – A pedestrian was fatally injured in a hit-and-run crash involving a semi-truck Wednesday night in Long Beach’s Wrigley neighborhood, according to local authorities.
According to reports, the incident occurred on August 20 around 8:10 p.m. near the intersection of Oregon Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. Officers with the Long Beach Police Department responded to find a man lying critically injured on the southwest sidewalk of the intersection.
Paramedics with the Long Beach Fire Department transported the pedestrian to a nearby hospital, but despite life-saving efforts, the individual was later pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a semi-truck, while turning from eastbound Pacific Coast Highway onto southbound Oregon Avenue, allowed its rear tires to roll onto the sidewalk—striking the pedestrian, who had been lying on the sidewalk at the time. The truck driver did not stop and fled southbound on Oregon Avenue.
Authorities confirmed that speed, distraction, or impairment were not factors in the collision. The investigation remains active.
