Oakland, CA (August 24, 2025) — Early Saturday morning, a young woman lost her life following a serious crash involving a semi-truck on the southbound side of the Interstate 880 Freeway.
According to reports, the California Highway Patrol responded to the crash just before 3:45 a.m. on August 24. The incident took place just north of Hegenberger Road near the Oakland Coliseum and involved a Honda Fit and a Freightliner Cascadia big rig.
Authorities say the Honda became disabled in the second lane of the southbound freeway following the collision. The 24-year-old female driver sustained grave injuries, and despite life-saving efforts from emergency responders, she later died from her wounds. Her identity is being withheld until next of kin have been notified.
The semi-truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. DUI was ruled out for the truck driver, though it remains unclear whether impairment may have been a factor for the driver of the Honda.
