San Diego, CA (August 29, 2025) – Wet road conditions brought on by remnants of Tropical Storm Juliette contributed to a series of serious crashes Thursday afternoon across San Diego County, including a deadly single-vehicle crash and two incidents involving semi-trucks.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the first crash occurred just before 1:30 p.m. on northbound Interstate 15 near Interstate 8. A semi-truck jackknifed against a concrete barrier, causing at least one lane to close and significant traffic backups stretching toward El Cajon Boulevard.
At approximately 2:45 p.m., another semi-truck incident was reported in National City, where an Amazon delivery truck lost control on the northbound Interstate 805 off-ramp at eastbound State Route 54. The truck was seen partially hanging off the road. Emergency responders transported the driver to UCSD Medical Center with major trauma injuries.
A third crash at 3:49 p.m. involved a vehicle that veered 30 feet off Highway 78 near Weekend Villa Road in Ramona. One man was killed, and another person was injured and hospitalized.
