According to the California Highway Patrol, the first crash took place shortly before 1:30 p.m. on northbound Interstate 15 near Interstate 8. A semi-truck jackknifed against a concrete barrier, blocking at least one lane and causing backups that stretched toward El Cajon Boulevard.
Just over an hour later, at around 2:45 p.m., an Amazon delivery semi-truck lost control near National City. The vehicle ended up hanging off the northbound Interstate 805 off-ramp at eastbound State Route 54. The driver was pulled from the wreck and transported to UCSD Medical Center with major trauma injuries.
At approximately 3:49 p.m., another crash on Highway 78 in Ramona proved fatal. A vehicle veered 30 feet off the roadway near Weekend Villa Road, killing one man and injuring another. Both directions of State Route 78 were closed during the emergency response.
