Chicago, IL (August 29, 2025) – A burglary investigation turned violent early Wednesday in Englewood after suspects in an SUV plowed into police officers and squad cars, triggering a police-involved shooting that left seven people hospitalized, according to the Chicago Police Department.

According to law enforcement, the incident began around 5:05 a.m. on August 27 when officers responded to reports of multiple individuals stealing from railcars in the 5800 block of South Princeton Avenue. As officers approached the scene, individuals matching the suspect description fled in an SUV, striking an officer in the process.

Police opened fire as the suspects drove into a squad car. The SUV driver was later taken into custody and hospitalized. The officer hit by the vehicle was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. Two additional officers were hospitalized for observation.

A second fleeing vehicle—a van—was pursued about two miles to the 7100 block of South Yale Avenue. There, it struck two more police vehicles. A 30-year-old man exited the van but was hit by the same vehicle and critically injured before being taken to the hospital. The van was later found abandoned near the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Two firearms were recovered, and the investigation remains ongoing. No charges have yet been announced.
