Phelan, CA (August 31, 2025) – A deadly collision involving a Toyota Corolla and a Can-Am off-road vehicle left one person dead and multiple others injured Friday evening in Phelan.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 6:38 p.m. on August 29 along Caughlin Road just north of Dos Palmas Road. Authorities say a Toyota Corolla, driven by a male motorist, collided with a Can-Am under circumstances that remain unclear.
A male occupant of the Can-Am sustained critical injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Another male occupant in the off-road vehicle suffered less severe injuries and was also hospitalized.
Additionally, one of the two female passengers in the Corolla was taken to the hospital for treatment. The male driver of the Toyota was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The incident remains under investigation.
