Colfax, WA (August 31, 2025) – A tragic collision on Highway 195 just south of Colfax left one woman dead and five others injured Friday evening.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred when 20-year-old Makala Wheeler of Vancouver attempted to overtake another vehicle while driving southbound on Highway 195. Wheeler’s car struck an oncoming vehicle driven by 67-year-old Sandra Hall of Colfax.

Hall was pronounced dead at the scene. Wheeler’s car overturned and landed on its roof following the impact. Wheeler and four passengers, all aged 18, sustained injuries ranging from moderate to severe. Two passengers were flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center, while Wheeler and one passenger were taken to a hospital in Pullman. Another was treated at a Colfax hospital.
