KNIGHTDALE, NC (January 12, 2025) – Interstate 87 near Wendell Falls Parkway was the site of a multi-vehicle collision Friday night as the Triangle region experienced its first measurable snowfall in nearly three years.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (SHP) reported that nine vehicles were involved in the crash. Several sustained significant damage, and some veered off the interstate. Minor injuries were reported, and no serious injuries have been disclosed.
A witness involved in the crash described the terrifying scene. “I just saw a lot of cars stopped, all crashed. It was scary to go through this,” she said.
Authorities closed I-87 to clear debris and rerouted traffic to U.S. 64 Business (Knightdale Boulevard) while crews worked to reopen the highway.
