OAK RIDGE, TN (January 12, 2025) – A tragic crash on Saturday morning left two people dead after a vehicle collided with the side of a Food City on the Oak Ridge Turnpike.
According to Oak Ridge Police Chief Robin Smith, the incident occurred around 9:30 AM near the store’s pharmacy drive-thru window along South Rutgers Avenue. A car traveling north on South Rutgers Avenue near Manhattan Avenue veered off the road and struck the building, causing significant damage to the structure’s facade.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to their injuries shortly after arrival.
The Oak Ridge Police Department is conducting an investigation into the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
