Buellton, CA (September 9, 2025) – A tragic collision involving a suspected DUI driver left one person dead and another injured Friday evening in Buellton.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash occurred around 6:54 p.m. on September 6 at the intersection of California Highway 246 and Domingos Road. Authorities say George Scarfe, 57, of Lompoc, was driving a Ford F-150 westbound on CA 246 when a 2012 Tesla Model S entered the intersection, resulting in a violent impact.
Scarfe suffered minor injuries and was transported to Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital for treatment.
A passenger inside the Tesla was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Tesla, 46-year-old Jesus Moises Martinez Chavira of North Hills, was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center with major injuries. Authorities later arrested Chavira on suspicion of DUI.
The CHP is actively investigating the crash.
