San Antonio, TX (September 18, 2025) – A man is facing serious charges following a deadly multi-vehicle collision that occurred early Tuesday morning on US Highway 281 in San Antonio’s North Side.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the fatal crash happened around 2:15 a.m. on September 16 in the 16500 block of US 281 North, near the Thousand Oaks Drive exit. Authorities say Jaime Cruz Martinez, 35, was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended a Ford Ranger.
The impact caused the Ford Ranger to crash into another vehicle. The driver of the Ranger, a 30-year-old man, was pinned inside the truck and died at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Martinez was arrested for intoxication manslaughter and booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. His bond was set at $150,000. The third vehicle involved sustained damage, but its driver was not injured.
