Lancaster, CA. (September 26, 2025) — An 18-year-old man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash caused by a suspected impaired driver Monday evening at a busy Lancaster intersection.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 6:50 p.m. on September 22 at the intersection of 90th Street East and East Palmdale Boulevard. Authorities say M. Monroy, 47, of Palmdale, was driving a maroon Kia southbound on 90th Street East when he allegedly ran a red light and struck a gray Infiniti G35 traveling eastbound on Palmdale Boulevard.
The force of the collision pushed the Infiniti into a white Chevrolet Avalanche that was stopped at the light. The driver of the Infiniti, later identified as Sergio Ortega of Little Rock, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Monroy was seriously injured and later arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury or death. A passenger in the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
