Northumberland County, PA (September 27, 2025) – Morning commuters were disrupted on Friday, September 26, after a heavy truck slammed into a bridge in Delaware Township, causing a massive road closure along Interstate 180.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the incident occurred when a tractor-trailer transporting 23 tons of stone collided with the 8th Street Drive overpass near Turbotville. The impact scattered stone, twisted metal, and downed wires across all four lanes of I-180, prompting officials to shut down the interstate between Interstate 80 and PA Route 54.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Both directions of I-180 reopened around 7:45 p.m., nearly 12 hours after the crash. However, 8th Street Drive remains closed indefinitely as crews assess the structural damage.
Detours were implemented using Susquehanna Trail, Route 54, and Church Road to reroute traffic around the debris-filled scene.
