Midland County, TX (September 28, 2025) – A man from San Angelo lost his life in a fatal crash involving multiple trucks Tuesday morning on State Highway 158 in Midland County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at approximately 6 a.m. on September 24 at the intersection with Farm-to-Market Road 1379. Forty-six-year-old Daniel Barrientez Jr. was behind the wheel of a 2015 GMC 3500 traveling westbound when he collided with the trailer of a 2012 Mack CXU truck. The truck had been turning from a private drive into the westbound lanes.
Moments after the initial impact, a 2000 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by 43-year-old Yaikel Preito of Round Rock, struck the disabled GMC.
Barrientez Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Preito and the Mack truck driver, 22-year-old Fernando Gonzalez of Sonora, were not injured.
The incident remains under investigation.
