Bakersfield, CA (October 3, 2025) – A tragic hit-and-run crash in Bakersfield claimed the life of a young passenger early Thursday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred at approximately 5:18 a.m. on October 2 at the intersection of South H Street and Houghton Road. A 33-year-old man was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Houghton Road when he attempted to turn onto South H Street.
At that moment, a white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, traveling east on Houghton Road, reportedly ran a stop sign and slammed into the right side of the Impala. The impact caused the Impala to roll onto its side and come to rest on eastbound Houghton Road.
A 26-year-old male passenger in the Impala tragically died at the scene. A second passenger, 45, was taken to Kern Medical with moderate injuries. The driver sustained minor injuries. The male driver of the Silverado fled the scene on foot and remains unidentified. Authorities are actively searching for the suspect.
