Howell Township, MI (October 8, 2025) – A fatal crash involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 96 in Livingston County Monday afternoon, claiming the life of one man.
According to the Michigan State Police, the deadly crash occurred around 1:44 p.m. on October 6 near Mason Road in Howell Township. A 2025 Kenworth semi-truck with a trailer had slowed and stopped in traffic on I-96 when a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by a 49-year-old man from Fowlerville, struck the rear of the trailer at highway speed.
The impact proved fatal for the driver of the Dodge Ram, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A 42-year-old passenger in the sleeper bunk of the semi was ejected during the crash and suffered minor injuries. The semi-truck driver, a 39-year-old man from Jalisco, Mexico, was not injured.
Troopers said alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision. The investigation remains active, and portions of I-96 were closed for hours following the crash.
