Palm Desert, CA (February 6, 2024) – A tragic multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near Washington Street left two people dead Tuesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The collision occurred around 1:00 p.m. on the westbound side of the highway and involved at least three vehicles, including two semi-trucks.
CHP reported that a white Toyota, traveling at approximately 70 mph in the #2 lane, suddenly swerved right, colliding with a blue semi-truck in the #3 lane. The impact pushed the Toyota into a red disabled semi-truck parked on the right shoulder. A tire repair truck was stationed in front of the disabled truck at the time.
The blue semi-truck then crashed into the repair truck and the maintenance worker, who was outside servicing the broken-down semi-truck. Both the Toyota’s driver and the maintenance worker were pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic delays affected both directions of the freeway, with westbound lanes experiencing the most significant congestion. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
