San Jose, CA (October 10, 2025) – A suspected drunk driving crash in San Jose claimed the life of a passenger Wednesday evening after two vehicles collided at a busy intersection, authorities confirmed.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident happened at approximately 5:35 p.m. on October 8 at the intersection of Monterey Road and Rancho Drive. A silver 2007 Ford sedan was traveling west on Rancho Drive when it attempted to turn left onto southbound Monterey Road. It was then struck by a northbound 2013 blue BMW coupe.

The impact caused the BMW to spin out, hit the center divider, and cross into the opposite lanes of traffic. A passenger in the BMW, identified as Jerome Michael Castro, 39, of Valley Springs, was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Both drivers sustained major injuries and were also taken to the hospital. San Jose Police reported that the Ford’s driver is suspected of driving under the influence. The investigation is ongoing.
