Chatham, IL (April 29, 2025) – Tragedy struck Monday afternoon when an SUV plowed through a building at the YNOT After School Camp, killing four students and injuring several others.

Illinois State Police reported that the devastating incident occurred around 3:20 p.m. on April 28. According to authorities, the SUV crashed into the east side of the building, barreled through, and exited on the west side. The camp, located just south of Springfield, Illinois, was filled with students at the time.

Four female students, believed to be between the ages of 4 and 18, lost their lives in the crash, according to the Sangamon County coroner. Officials stated that one of the victims was inside the building, while three were outside when the vehicle struck.

At least six additional individuals sustained injuries. One person was airlifted to a hospital for emergency treatment. The SUV’s driver, the sole occupant, was hospitalized for evaluation but was reportedly unharmed. Authorities confirmed that the driver is a suspect; however, no arrests or charges have yet been announced.
