Cooke County, TX (November 12, 2025) – A tragic pedestrian accident claimed the life of a Collinsville man early Monday morning in Cooke County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal crash occurred on November 10 along U.S. Highway 82 near Farm to Market Road 1198. Edward Leyva, 74, was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of the highway when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Steven Murphey, 53, of Nocona.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, where Leyva was sadly pronounced dead. Murphey, the driver of the vehicle involved, sustained injuries and was transported to North Texas Medical Center. His injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

Authorities closed a portion of the highway while investigators documented the scene. The Texas DPS is continuing its investigation into the events that led to the collision.
