Carteret County, NC (April 27, 2025) – A fatal crash claimed the life of a pedestrian late Friday night in Carteret County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred around 10:22 p.m. on April 25 at the intersection of Highway 24 and 9 Mile Road. Authorities reported that 64-year-old Joseph H. Gore of Newport was attempting to cross Highway 24 when he was struck by two westbound vehicles that were turning onto 9 Mile Road.
Emergency crews responded quickly, but Gore was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers indicated that the roadway remained closed for approximately an hour and a half as officials investigated and worked to clear the area.
Both drivers involved remained on scene, and officials have not indicated any pending charges as the investigation continues.
