LeRoy, NY (April 29, 2025) – A tragic accident in Genesee County claimed the life of a Rochester man Monday evening following a collision involving a Vespa motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.
Emergency crews responded to a 911 call shortly after 6:45 p.m. on April 28 at the intersection of State Route 19 and the Interstate 490 on-ramp. According to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, a southbound car failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled into the path of an oncoming Vespa. The Vespa struck the rear passenger door of the vehicle, pinning the rider underneath.
The operator of the Vespa, identified as 65-year-old Duane Girdner of Rochester, was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and no additional details have been released at this time.
