According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the deadly accident occurred around 2:38 p.m. on November 18 at the intersection of U.S. Highway 385 and Farm to Market Road 2196. Authorities said a 2016 International Prostar truck tractor pulling a trailer was heading east on FM 2196 when the driver failed to stop at a posted stop sign.

The semi collided with a northbound 2024 Kia Forte driven by 29-year-old Elizabeth Miranda of Brownfield. Miranda was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted she had been wearing her seatbelt.

The semi driver, identified as 45-year-old Rosalba Munoz of Plains, was taken to Brownfield Regional Medical Center with injuries of unknown severity. The crash remains under active investigation.
