Grass Valley, CA (November 28, 2025) – A devastating multi-vehicle crash involving two semi-trucks and a pickup truck claimed the lives of two big rig drivers and left another person injured Wednesday morning in Nevada County.
According to the California Highway Patrol , the collision occurred just before 11 a.m. on November 26, 2025, on Highway 20, between Highway 49 and Rough and Ready Highway in Grass Valley.
Initial reports indicate that one of the big rigs was traveling eastbound when, for unknown reasons, it crossed into the westbound lanes and slammed head-on into another big rig and a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. The crash resulted in significant damage and caused diesel to spill onto the roadway.
Both semi-truck drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Following the crash, Highway 20 was shut down in both directions for several hours and reopened at approximately 7:30 p.m.
CHP is continuing to investigate what caused the truck to veer into oncoming traffic.
