Austin, TX (May 28, 2025) – A man is facing multiple charges after a deadly early morning crash on Burleson Road left a pedestrian dead, according to the Austin Police Department.
According to reports, officers responded to the 4900 block of Burleson Road around 12:50 a.m. on May 24 after receiving calls about a crash involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle. When police arrived, they discovered the victim, identified as Juan Mario-Martinez-Hernandez, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver had already fled.
Roughly 40 minutes later, a man called 9-1-1 and confessed to hitting a pedestrian on Burleson Road. Officers responded to the address and made contact with the caller, identified as Angelo Pinheiro. After conducting a DWI investigation, police arrested Pinheiro. He was booked into the Travis County Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated (Class B misdemeanor) and collision involving death (2nd degree felony).
This incident marks Austin’s 35th fatal crash of 2025, with 39 fatalities recorded so far. The investigation remains ongoing.
