Louisville, KY (December 6, 2025) – Early Friday morning, a Louisville Metro Police officer and another driver were injured in a collision at the intersection of 2nd Street and West Market Street. The crash occurred amid an ongoing police response to an attempted vehicle break-in several blocks away.
According to the Kentucky State Police, officers were initially investigating reports of a group attempting to break into cars near East Main Street and South Jackson Street. As multiple units responded, a separate collision was reported at 2nd and West Market around 3:20 a.m. Responding officers found one of their own trapped in a marked cruiser with lights and sirens activated. The second driver, identified as 32-year-old Anthony Lewis of Louisville, was bleeding from his face.
Police reported that alcohol odor was strong even before approaching Lewis’ vehicle. Lewis admitted to drinking earlier in the night, and officers found an empty fifth of whiskey and another open bottle in the car. Both Lewis and the officer were taken to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Lewis was arrested and charged with DUI, reckless driving, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container.
