Wilson County, TN (December 9, 2025) – A man lost his life and another person was injured following a crash that temporarily shut down eastbound lanes of Interstate 840 on Tuesday afternoon, December 2, in Wilson County.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the deadly crash took place near the 73.4 mile marker around 1:19 p.m. Investigators say 77-year-old John Spickler was driving a 2013 Nissan Frontier when he collided with the rear of a 2019 Volvo tractor-trailer, which had slowed due to traffic ahead. Spickler was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and tragically died from his injuries.
The 43-year-old driver of the Volvo truck also sustained injuries and was treated at the scene. The full extent of their injuries has not been publicly shared. Eastbound lanes reopened around 3:50 p.m., but traffic delays remained throughout the afternoon.
