According to the California Highway Patrol, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported Saturday that the steel gas lines involved in the blast date back to the 1940s. The agency noted that a ¾-inch diameter service line and a 2-inch diameter gas main were both present near the site and had been installed decades ago.
